Fraxel

A fractionated laser technology commonly used to treat acne scars, wrinkles, fine lines, uneven texture, enlarged pores, and pigmentation. Fraxel creates microscopic treatment zones in the skin, stimulating the body's natural healing process to replace damaged tissue with fresh, healthy skin.

Optimizing Your Treatment

Pre-Treatment

Avoidance of Accutane for six months before treatment. Avoid retinoids, topical antibiotics, exfoliants, hydroquinone, sunburn, and benzoyl peroxide three days before the procedure. Use of recommended skin care system for preconditioning for 4-6 weeks for optimal results. Avoidance of IPL/Laser procedures for seven days prior. No waxing, depilatory creams or electrolysis 5-7 days before. No shaving the day of the procedure. Skin should be clean.

Post-Treatment

Do not take any anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen, Motrin or Advil. Avoid sun tanning and prolonged exposure to direct sunlight. Always use sunscreen SPF30 or above. Redness or sensitivity might be present and last up to a few days. Avoid strenuous exercise or sweating for 24 hours. Treat skin gently. May use mineral makeup after 24 hours. Restart regular skin care in 48 hours and retinol/retinoid in 72 hours.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the downtime for Fraxel?
Swelling: usually will last 2-3 days and will often appear the worst on the day after treatment, especially around the eyes. Sleep elevated the first night and apply cold compresses (cold packs) to the treatment area 10 minutes of every hour for the first 1-2 days.
Redness: can be covered up with mineral based make up immediately after treatment if so desired; slight redness could remain for up to 1 week. We recommend using Jane Iredale Make up.
Dry Skin: this procedure tends to cause the skin to flake and feel dry. This is normal and should resolve within a week.
If you have areas of raw skin post treatment, keep them moist with something like Aquaphor or Bacitracin. You do not have to apply band-aids but keep them moist and do not pick at them. They will heal on their own without incident very rapidly. Healing time also varies from person to person. Be patient with your healing process. We are confident you will see improvement of your skin texture shortly after even the first treatment.
